Malaysia Delicacies: Nasi Kandar

Nasi Kandar originates from northern state – Penang – of Malaysia. It is prepared with steamed rice, a variety of curries and side dishes.

The meal is extremely popular among the Tamil Muslim (or locally known as Mamak) community. Traditionally the rice is served on banana leaf giving a delicious aroma. Then added on with selection of side dishes such as curried spleen, beef curry, fish roe, fried chicken, or fried spicy prawns. The vegetable choices usually are brinjal, lady fingers or fried bitter gourd.

Once you make all the selection, either chicken curry sauce or fish curry sauce is poured on the rice. The sauce creates a diverse taste to the whole meal. In Kuala Lumpur, this set comes to around RM10-RM15 per person.
