Borneo favourite fruits Tarap & Rambutan

Tarap, a unique fruit that is only found in Sabah, has sweet fragrance we love to eat. Many non-Sabahans regard the fruit as food for the monkeys. My late granny used to say, if you see Durian in the Tamu Sabah, Tarap fruit will be around the corner. Absolutely right!

It’s also Rambutan season again! This type of fruit is native to Indonesia and Malaysia. The outer skin comes in two colours, either the common red and yellow. Once peeled, the white fleshy fruit inside can be eaten. It may taste sweet, or sweet with slight sour. Whichever flavour you prefer, it’s a must try.

Anything costs more than RM5 for one Tarap is expensive. Same goes with Rambutan. Now the price is less than RM5 per kilogram. Don’t let profiteering to damage the local market, no matter how much you like the fruits.
