Why Ambivert thrives better

Have you ever wondered why Ambivert thrives better in the virtual working environment? As we are getting out of the pandemic slowly, let’s examine how Ambivert myself performed in the past year and a half. If you want to know your personality type, take the quiz.

When the pandemic hit in early 2020, most businesses were almost at a standstill with nationwide lock-down measures. Companies transitioned to the virtual world to maintain communication and productivity. Company leaders soon found that those outgoing employees (Extroverts) were affected. Meanwhile, Introverted and Ambiverted workers thrived in isolation.

The working landscape changed dramatically and permanently. It is unlikely we are going back to the pre-pandemic environment. The New World working model presents a new reality of fewer social interactions and more remote team collaboration. I am quicker to adapt to the changing work styles than my colleagues. My productivity rate even improves by 60% after four months. Why is it important to get back in the office when things can get done remotely?

New World New Normal

Ambiverts are comfortable in adjusting their approach to people and the situation. We can blend in and adapt like a chameleon. I have no issue attending a Zoom meeting on my smartphone while completing the project tasks on my computer. I enjoy spending time alone working in front of my computer researching for the work with less distraction.

The flexibility of remote working offers greater career satisfaction. I have a more positive outlook and feel less tired than working in an office. Constant interaction and communication with colleagues are energy draining. Fewer interruptions and office gossips increase productivity with better time management. Most importantly, a home office can avoid office politics.

Clients, on the other hand, are experiencing the same remote shift. They prefer agents who are understanding and have the patience to listen to their dilemma. I feel more excited to call clients and enjoy the phone conversations. I have clients who prefer my outspoken team members to deal with them. The pandemic changed their preference. They requested me to handle their cases.

The virtual environment offers greater openness where members have enough opportunity to share ideas. I could let everyone shine in the meeting, rather than only one or two persons do the talking. I also can motivate the team with positive thoughts. Empathetic listening is so crucial to connecting team members and clients.

Performance Evaluation

The pandemic has disrupted the workplace so drastically at a rapid pace. Traditionally leaders consider outgoing staff as the best performer. Most companies and leaders are embracing staff performance can take different forms. The quiet and silent members are the best performing workers over the past year.

Mental health is also taking a dominant stage. Leaders now understand the importance of safeguarding emotional wellbeing, not just physical health. Ambiverts can balance their lives well to avoid burnout. I enjoy having a small gathering with friends during weekends or staying at home reading a book alone. Sometimes, I would try baking new recipes. Maintaining my homegrown garden is a fantastic stress reliever. I keep my work and life in a harmonious balance.
