Steamed Chocolate Cake recipe

Ingredients

  • 150g unsalted butter
  • 120g castor sugar
  • 200ml full cream milk
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 125g cake flour
  • 70g cocoa powder (I use Callebaut pure cocoa powder)
  • 1/2tsp baking powder
  • 1/2tsp baking soda

Preparation instructions

01 Combine sugar, milk and butter in a pot. Stir over low heat until sugar is dissolved and butter has melted.

02 Remove from the heat. Add the beaten eggs into the slightly cooled mixture and stir till well mixed.

03 Sift the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and baking soda in a large mixing bowl.

04 Add the egg mixture into the flour and stir until smooth. The batter should be runny. Heat up the steamer.

05 (I use an 8″ baking mould but this is a 6″ with extra height recipe). Pour the batter into the prepared mould and place it into the steamer. Cover the top of the pan. Steam over medium heat for 45 minutes.

06 Check for doneness by inserting a skewer into the cake. Cool the cake for 15 minutes before turning it out. Chill the cake in the fridge before serving.
