The fun-fact of Yum Cha

Hong Kong Yum Cha

It’s 2:30PM at my favourite dim sum restaurant in Yuen Long. The place was still buzzing like usual. One will be wondering why those diners aren’t at their workplace when it is after normal lunch hours! Noise from the clatter of plates, crockery and voices of 60 or more diners filled the atmosphere. Welcome to Hong Kong!

It’s so difficult to have a conversation, and yet many come here to do so. Four minutes sitting inside the restaurant was like having a meal at a live concert.

Yum Cha is part of the culture among Hong Kong community. That culture has swept over to other part of the world as well. In Malaysia, we also call our friends to go yum cha (a tea break).

It’s totally different in Hong Kong! Yum Cha not only means go for a tea, it also mean to meet up friends. We ordered sixteen stacks of dim sum and three plates of chicken rice. There were only three of us!

We did finish all the food on the table. Spent two hours in the restaurant chatting about recent developments and some insightful topics too.

Next time you are in Hong Kong, do experience the true meaning of yum cha with the locals. You’ll be amazed!
