Homemade Fruit Enzyme drinks

Enzymes are live bacteria that help biochemical processes in our bodies. They are crucial for our metabolism and digestive health. In particular, these enzymes allow your stomach to process the food and your body to absorb more nutrients. Regular consuming homemade fruit enzyme helps you enjoy many health benefits.

It believes enzymes maintain the alkalinity of your body’s PH level. Moreover, they improve your immune and digestive systems. Enzymes also help to break down fats, carbohydrates and proteins. Thus they help to lower our cholesterol levels. Studies also found fruit enzymes are a good source of antioxidants.

How to Make Fruit Enzyme at Home

Fruit enzyme drink has been popular since 2010. To prepare your fruit enzyme at home, you need:

  • Fruit(s) of your choice (pineapples and apples are my favourites)
  • Thoroughly clean glass jar with lid
  • Sugar (cane sugar, brown sugar or refined sugar)
  • Filtered water

The Ratio is 3 kilograms of fruits to 1 kilogram of sugar to 5 litres of water.

Preparations

You prepare the drink with fruits with sugar. Then allows the mixture to undergo fermentation. The process is simple.

  1. Use warm water to wash the glass jar. Clean the fruits. Air-dry the fruits and glass jar. There should be no moisture in the glass jar.
  2. Cut the fruits into small pieces.
  3. Line 1/3 layer of the jar with fruits followed by a layer of sugar.
  4. Then line another 1/3 layer with fruits and repeat with another layer of sugar.
  5. Line the final 1/6 layer with fruits and fill the jar with water. The water must cover the fruits. At last, line with the remaining sugar. You need to leave some breathing room, about 1/6 of the jar. This step allows the fermentation process between the fruits and sugar.
  6. Cover the lid and store the jar in a cool place. Don’t refrigerate it.
  7. For the first one week, stir the content every day to release the fermentation gas and mix the sugar and fruits well.

Some makers start to consume the fruit enzyme three weeks later. I store mine for at least four months.

Take Notes

Once the fruit enzyme is ready for consumption, filter the liquid into bottles. The glass bottles must be clean and have no moisture. Place the fruit enzyme drink in the fridge. The cool temperature would prevent bacteria contamination.

The right time to consume fruit enzyme drink? It depends.

If you have a gastric problem, take it before a meal. However, if you want to lower your cholesterol, drink it an hour after mealtime.

Wonder what to do with the strainer? You can compost it. I dilute it to make enzyme cleaners. Use the cleaners to clean the stove and dish plates and mop the floor. The citrus smell will deter the ants for a few days.
