“You lack the necessary skills.”
Since I was a kid, I’ve always had trouble drawing and colouring. I disliked the subject because it was the only failed subject on my transcript. I thought I didn’t have any artistic talent in design and wouldn’t want to work in that field.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I started to teach myself how to use Canva to make designs. My designs got better as I kept practising and pushed myself outside of my comfort zone. Then, in April 2022, I signed up for the DailyUI 100-day challenges to push myself even more.
Figma is my playground for making user interfaces. After I finished the 25th task, I realised that designing user interfaces needs to take into account how the user interacts. After that, I focus on how people use services like coffee machines in my designs.
User experience design is a broad field that encompasses psychology, business, market research, design and technology. Only products and services that provide a seamless user experience will thrive in the market. This is how I relate it to my fifteen years as a travel consultant.

As a user experience designer, it’s your job to make products and technology easier for people to use, enjoy, and understand. We bridge the gap between the user, the development team, and the key stakeholders. UX designers must first think about what’s best for the user and the user experience as a whole.
UX designers are not usually in control of a product’s visual design. Instead, they focus on the user’s journey and how the app is designed to make that journey easier. The process of designing the user experience is very iterative. Therefore, UX designers put a lot of thought into how all stakeholders can work well together.
In short, user experience is all about people. It’s helping people. I find the same excitement in UX that I did in travel services 15 years ago.
